GooSync Account Configuration
If your GooSync account is set to use a Windows Mobile or Palm OS device you will
see the AutoSync option on the Home page of your account:
You can change this by clicking the "Change..." link next to the AutoSync option.
This will show you the following page:
If you require AutoSync activated on your device simply select the check box and
save the changes.
You now need to synchronise your device with GooSync in order for AutoSync feature
to be activated on your device.

Device Configuration
Once the sync is complete you will see a new AutoSync check box on the main screen
of your GooSync client, and you will find the AutoSync options in the profile settings.
The images shown below are from a Windows Mobile touch screen device but the settings
will be the same for Windows Mobile non-touch screen, and Palm OS devices.
The AutoSync settings consist of a set of three conditions.
The first two conditions allow you to specify the days AutoSync will run, the times
AutoSync will occur between, and how much charge the device battery must hold before
AutoSync will start. The third condition is for all other times that you wish AutoSync
to run.
Each condition provides three AutoSync options: Push, Timed, and Off.
The GooSync server will only recognise the Timed and Off settings. Push is not enabled
on the GooSync server.
In the screen shots shown above AutoSync has been enabled to work in the following
conditions:
- Between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday, when the battery has more
than 75% charge.
- Between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00, Saturday and Sunday, when the battery has
more than 75% charge.
- For all other times the device will not AutoSync.
The device is set to perform an AutoSync every 120 minutes when the device is mobile
(using GPRS or Wi-Fi for example), and every 60 minutes if the device is connected
via the cradle.
We request that the sync intervals are set to no less than 15 minutes for fair usage.
If AutoSync is set to less than 15 minutes, you may be in violation of the GooSync
Terms & Conditions.

AutoSync Synchronisation
Once your AutoSync settings have been modified to your requirements click OK to
save them.
On the main screen of the GooSync client simply select the AutoSync check box to
enable the AutoSync procedure.
Next to the checkbox, the current AutoSync status will be shown:
- inactive: AutoSync is not active, either because the checkbox is unchecked or because
none of the conditions (time, weekday, battery) specified in the settings are met.
- at 04/12/2006 - 12:33:26: AutoSync is active, the next time when a timed synchronisation
will take place is shown.
- off, low battery: AutoSync is inactive because the battery charge is below the level
specified in the settings.
- off, no phone: AutoSync is inactive because the phone is switched off and there
is no other way available to connect to the GooSync server.
- Syncing now...: an AutoSync sync process is currently running.

Disabling AutoSync
To disable AutoSync you simply need to de-select the AutoSync check box on the main
screen of the GooSync client

AutoSync Notifications
On the Windows Mobile (touch screen) devices you can configure the device to alert
you when each AutoSync process is initiated.
You can locate this option under the Connection Settings of the GooSync
client:
This option is enabled by default on Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices. If this option
is set your device will show an alert, similar to a calendar event reminder, everytime
AutoSync is initiated.

AutoSync Restrictions
AutoSync will not take place when the sync mode is set to either "Reload Device"
or "Reload Server" for security reasons. These sync modes involve deleting all data
at either client or server, and therefore it is required to manually initiate them
to avoid unintentional data loss. This is also true if the sync mode is set to either
of the "Update" modes when the server requests a slow sync, as this will force the
device to change the sync mode to one of the "Reload" modes.
AutoSync will only take place if the device has successfully synchronised with the
GooSync server at least once manually. Again, this is a security measure to make
sure a proper sync relationship is established between client and server before
letting the sync happen automatically.
The AutoSync process on Palm OS devices can also be blocked if there are un-acknowledged
reminders on the device (including those that are not "insistent" by popping up
dialogs, but also those that only flash an asterisk in the status bar to get attention).
